Richard was born in Iserlohn, W Germany and lived in Dortmund for the first years of his life. He returned to Larkhill in Wiltshire, and spent seven years at school in Bath. At the end of that time, he spent a year in New Zealand, walking for Save the Children Fund from the very north of North Island to the very south of South Island, a wonderful experience. He then went to Westminster College, Oxford, where he obtained a BTh degree, after which he undertook a good number of interim jobs, as well as another period abroad, this time in Sri Lanka. His object was to look at the effect of the two main religions in that country, Hinduism and Buddhism, and also to spend a couple of weeks in a Buddhist monastery. Eventually he began teaching in a comprehensive school in Surrey and it appears that teaching suits him. In 2002, he moved to Bournemouth Grammar School where he is currently teaching Religion and Philosophy. He is married to Dee, whose family live in Petersfield. At the moment, Dee feels that it is important for her to be near her family. Unfortunately, it is too far for Richard to travel daily from Petersfield to Bournemouth, so for the time being, he is back living at home with us. Eventually, the plan is to buy or rent a small flat in the Bournemouth area. |
